Bosnia and Herzegovina: market context

Bosnia and Herzegovina has two separate support frameworks. The Federation of BiH introduced premium auctions under its 2023 renewables law, with about 240 MW of wind and solar auctions planned for 2025 to 2030. Republika Srpska's 2022 law provides premium auctions for plants up to 50 MW and feed-in tariffs for small installations.

Larger wind and solar projects are typically developed under long-term concessions or land leases and sold on the merchant market or under PPAs. Most projects in the public selection are in the south-west of the country, close to the Croatian border.

Since 1 January 2026, electricity imported into the EU falls under the definitive phase of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which adds weight to renewable generation in exporting countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
